Week 44 Thursday (11/13/14)

Recipe Review
Today’s Recipe and Location:           Basic Thanksgiving Dressing

I figured out that there are 299 calories per serving, if 24 servings are made. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

This is the broth that is poured over the three types of bread

This is a mixture of the three breads

This is the large pan of dressing

This is was the other one-third of the recipe

This dressing was easy to make, but it takes longer than one day to let the three breads dry out. I set them out in the morning, but had to make the dressing before bed. They were still not dried out but I made it anyway. The dressing is not as good as my G-Ma’s sage dressing, but it was okay. Most of the people who tried this dish did not like the cornbread part of the mix. I totally agreed with them. This recipe makes a great deal of dressing and could feed an army.

Random Reflections

Today, the weather has turned, and I am freezing. The wind is definitely from Canada, and the furnace is just chugging away.  This is the time of year when darkness comes early and it is annoying to get home after the sun has set. Every hour I check the clock to see if it is time to go to bed. It is amazing how slowly the night goes when it starts at 4:40. Oh well, I am productive in the winter, and am thankful for daylight savings time even though it is over until the spring

Irksome Ideas and Images

I am so irritated that I have a mouse in my house. I have owned three homes, and this is my first mouse or mice. I ran out to the hardware store and bought four traps.
Of course, the hardest part was figuring out how it worked. I took it over to Joe and Nicole’s house, and Joe figured it out for me. I loaded two of them with peanut butter, and set them out in the basement.
During the night I caught a little gray mouse. It is so gross to have to pick up the trap. The other trap was sprung and no mouse. I hope the one I caught set it off, but what if it didn’t?  Do I have another mouse or a whole family? OMG – at least the signs are only in the basement. That might be due to Willow and Sage. Oh well, I reset the one and put out another trap. Say a prayer that the problem is solved. Gosh – I hope so!

Okay- I wrote the first part of this entry two days ago. I am now up to killing five, yes FIVE mice.  OMG - this is becoming stressful. I am living in mouse Heaven and have never seen one alive. I even had to buy more traps and setting them is a royal pain in the patootee. Is that even a word???
Today I got home from school and ran to the basement, and thank the Lord there was nothing in either trap.  Please or please let this be the end. Then I can find how they got in, seal it off, rip down the soiled insulation, and sit back and smile.
