What the Beck???

Today is going to be
a little bit of everything.

American Working Women
Did you know that 64% of Japanese women are part of the work force?  Sixty three percent of American woman are employed. I was really surprised that it was only 63% of American women. Maybe I was amazed, because I thought that number would be really high nowadays. In my parent’s time I would have expected the number to be in the 30 – 40% range, but now only 63% of women work outside of the house. Who knew?

Ninety is REALLY OLD!
In the paper this week it had an article about Dick Van Dyke turning 90 years old. Ninety??  Ninety is REALLY OLD. Okay, now I am thinking it is because I am “age challenged.” I am 59 and ¾ years old, (could I be more exact?) and I still think of Van Dyke as being young. Could it be because I watch him on TV a lot when he was much younger?? I love shows like Murder She Wrote and Matlock and those stars are frozen in my mind at that age. I recently saw a photo of Angela Landsbury and was shocked at how old she looked. This would be a good time to send me a picture of you now, so that I will always think of all of you as young. Wishful thinking.

Blinking Yellow Lights
Are blinking yellow left turn lights a new thing, or am I staying home too much??  When I was in Kentucky, I noticed that there was always a blinking yellow light as a warning to be careful, but not have to wait for the next turning light.  A great idea, and I wondered why Illinois didn’t have them until yesterday, when I was driving down Randall Road, and saw one here.

The Thanksgiving Cost
I was reading Real Simple Magazine for November and found an interesting statistic.  Did you know that the American Farm Bureau Federation stated that, “Last year the cost to feed 10 people Thanksgiving dinner was a whopping $49.41?

One of my Favorite Things
Have you ever gone through the drive-in car wash at BP??
I went last week, and remembered how much I love the smell of the rainbow wash cycle.  It was such a strange memory, but Rachel and I always loved the smell. We always looked forward to getting a big whiff and a clean car. Rachel – I wish you were there!

Maureen O’Hara Died…
I loved Maureen O’Hara.  She was a wonderful actress. I loved her in the classics The Quiet Man  and McLintock, both with John Wayne, the original Parent Trap with Brian Keith, and Only the Lonely with John Candy. She was a gifted Irish born redhead who always played a feisty woman. She had a long life, and passed away at 95 years old.  Sad, but true.

What Will the Big Selling Toy be this Year?
A few of the past biggies were Frozen toys in 2014, Tickle Me Elmo in 1996, Cabbage Patch Kids in 1983, Easy Bake Oven in 1972, and Barbie and Ken in the 1970s.  Do you have a guess?

Did you know…
That women and men need to have a waist less than 38 inches to help prevent heart attacks?

Henri J.M. Nouwen, a professor, writer and priest wrote:

“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.”

Go forth and be joyful!!!  I am!!!
