Recipe Review

Today’s Recipe and Location:  Orange Sweet Rolls
Found in: The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food From my Frontier
                           Pages 14 - 15      Copyright:  2012  Harper Collins

I figured out that there are 159 calories per serving. When I made the recipe I cut 39 servings. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

I love a good breakfast. I must confess that I have never had an orange sweet roll until today.  I became bold and daring because the recipe reminded me of a cinnamon roll so I thought – what the heck? Let’s take a risk, be bold, be adventurous and taste something new.  This thought really paid off because these are absolutely yummy.   I wasn’t taken back by the orange flavor because it was subtle for my taste buds. Orange is really a refreshing fruit.
Oranges can supply you with a lot of the recommended vitamin C we need in a day. Acidic food doesn’t usually agree with me, but these rolls totally hit the spot. Yee Ha! Try one – you may become an orange sweet roll lover.
I am with Nicole on this one.  An orange roll and a cup of hot tea really hit the spot.

Don't ya just want to grab one?

Today’s critics:

The Serpico Family had mixed reviews. Michael said is was so-so.  Nicole doesn’t like a warm orange flavor but did like this.  “It was good but not overpowering.”  Joe said is was good.
The above review was from the first time I made these rolls.  The second time I made them (in order to snap a photo) Nicole loved them with a cup of hot tea.  We both have developed a love for these sweet treats.

Brandy:  “Good, but a little too over powering on the orange for my taste, I would probably do half the orange if I made them.”

Random Reflections

I was at the grocery store the other day and was disgusted with my own wallet, I once learned from Suze Orman that you should respect your money. A messy wallet is a sign of a messy life.  Now that does sound like a cliché, but I took it to heart.  My bookkeeping past always had me facing my bills the same way, but after Suzie’s advice I also put them in order by denomination – smallest on top. This seems a little crazy but I like the order. In fact I am an avid fan of organization in every aspect of my life.  Sometimes, okay most times, I am over the top.  Once home, I immediately cleared up the problem in a minute or two.  All is once again right with the world of money and finances.

Helpful Home Hints

I am a freak when it comes to organizing my cabinets. I found and purchased the most wonderful organizers for many rooms in my house. Today, I am just focusing on the kitchen. Oxo makes great stackable clear glass and plastic containers that have pop lids. They really keep your food fresh and are only about $10 - $17 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  I bought them in many sizes and use them daily. They also give you more room in your cabinets.  Mine are so overcrowded, due to all of my new cooking needs.  Try them out – and let’s get organized.

Even the dog food and treats are in these great containers

I also insert the calorie cutout from the package and put it in the container for future use.  As a person who counts calories,  I have to have that information before I can use these containers and throw out all of the packages.
